This alpaca wool knit kit uses alpaca yarn from British and Irish farms. It's knitted as a flat panel, and you can choose either single pointed needles or circular needles...which can be helpful, just because it's a wide project and circulars hold the knitting easily. It includes three tassles (which of course you can choose not to make/add).
Part of our Restful range which is intended for stress-free easy knitting that means you can focus on the conversation, the movie or just whatever you need to be thinking about. Each pattern is simple to work with, and has been tested on beginners, rusty knitters, and the very accomplished. Everyone reports that the yarn is fabulous soft and lovely to work with and all the feedback is that the styles are very restful to knit, and lovely to wear!
Videos available for all the stitches and the tassels! The shawl knits up wide, so we recommend using circular needles to hold the stitches, but long single pointed needles can be used if you prefer.

As with all Gorgeous alpaca DK kits, it's warm and cosy, but lightweight and breathes well. The alpaca yarn has a small amount of 100% natural sheep's wool blended in, which makes it easy to knit with, and still retains that wonderful alpaca softness. The shawl can be washed by hand or in a machine on a wool wash at 20 degrees.

What's so great about alpaca yarn?
Alpaca yarn is highly valued for it's softness, warmth, and durability.
Let's compare it to sheep's wool
- The fibres are much finer, and generally longer, than sheep’s wool, which makes them softer and less itchy
- It contains no lanolin which makes it hypo-allergenic (and also makes it more sustainable as it can be processed at very low temperatures)
- It also has a natural sheen that gives finished items a luxurious look
- Both sheep and alpaca fleece is water-repellent, but alpaca also wicks away the moisture

Hand washing: Use lukewarm water and a specialist wool detergent. Hair conditioner in the final rinse will add extra softness. When washing and rinsing squeeze the garment rather than rubbing. Gently squeeze out excess water before rolling in a towel. Lay flat to dry.
Washing machines: Modern machines with delicate programme at 20C using a wool delicate detergent. Can be spun at 400 RPM.
