We have videos for all these stitches on our How To videos page
The finished size: 43cm x 33cm . You can buy a cushion pad for this size from Merrick & Day.
Adapting the size: If you have a smaller cushion pad, you can of course adjust the pattern to fit. Let us know, and we will even include the revised number of stitches you will need to cast on for your own pad.
Kit includes:
- Cotton alpaca project bag
- 200gm Gorgeous Aran made from 50% baby* alpaca /50% baby* merino
- 5 x 5cm buttons
- Optional - 5.5mm needles and tapestry needle
- Pattern for cushion
The mix of baby alpaca and merino means it both super soft and easy to knit with. The colour of this yarn is parchment (a lovely off-white/ cream colour).
* "baby alpaca" means the fleece used has a very fine micron and is therefore especially soft, not that we stole the fleece from a baby cria!

Baby Merino Aran has a simple construction of 2/3.5nm giving 175m (191 yds) per 100g hank. Its a beautifully soft blend of baby alpaca and 21 micron merino wool. Baby Alpaca is one of the most luxurious fabrics in the world. It is incredibly warm, light weight and strong. It has hypoallergenic properties, it contains no lanolin, which makes the fibre safe to wear if you have skin allergies. Alpaca is said to be three times warmer than sheep wool as the fibres have excellent insulation properties whilst remaining light and breathable. The baby alpaca is combined in equal measure with fine merino giving the yarn more bounce and elasticity.
The merino is mulesing free and comes from South America. The yarn is 100% animal fibre and perfect for dyeing.
Hand wash using a wool detergent ideally below 30C, avoid wringing and twisting. Dry flat, do not sun dry, spin or tumble dry.

This was the first time I've knitted with alpaca yarn ,it was beautiful and very soft, a great pattern and very easy to follow, I am an experienced knitter. The only thing I did differently was, I put 6 buttons on which was my mistake, still looks good. The service was excellent fast delivery, I liked the kit so much I've got a another different design, highly recommend
Hi Liz,
Wow, we love the finished look, and your unique button-take. It is really great to personalise anything we make, don't you think? Thank you for a great review and a lovely photo.x

Frequently Asked Questions
Natural fibers are biodegradable and decompose naturally, unlike synthetic fibers, which take over 200 years to degrade. During this time, they contribute to landfill waste, release greenhouse gases, and leach toxic chemicals into the environment.
Alpaca material is stain-resistant, which means that it needs less washing and is less likely to get ruined by stains … and alpaca is stain-resistant without having chemicals and coatings added to it to make it so.
Sustainable Fashion Story
Alpaca yarn is naturally wrinkle-resistant, eliminating the need for ironing and reducing energy consumption. This helps lower carbon emissions, with ironing estimated to produce 190 kg of CO₂ per person annually.
Unlike sheep and goats, alpacas graze sustainably by trimming grass instead of uprooting it. This allows the grass to regrow naturally, preserving the soil and supporting healthy ecosystems.
