This chunky alpaca wool is super soft and lovely to knit with, and all the fleece is sourced from British farms. You should read our reviews on this. Our customers are fabulous fans of it!

WE ARE LOW ON SOME CHUNKY COLOURS AND THERE WILL BE NO MORE UNTIL THIS YEAR'S FLEECE HAS BEEN PROCESSED. Limited quantities of Midnight Blue (1 ball), and Speckledy Grey (4 balls). Parchment is sold out. Sorry!

The speckledy yarns are a special range - where the natural alpaca fleeces of black, dark brown and red brown fibre blended with the white fleece to give the natural grey shade which is then overdyed to give the other shades in the range.

Weight #5, Chunky
Blend:  75% Alpaca, 25% Sheep
Size: 3/3Nm giving 100m per 100g
Ball size: 50g (50m)
Tension: 15 sts x 18 rows = 4"/10cm over stocking stitch with 6mm (US10)

What's so great about alpaca yarn?

Alpaca yarn is highly valued for it's softness, warmth, and durability.

Let's compare it to sheep's wool

  • The fibres are much finer, and generally longer, than sheep’s wool, which makes them softer and less itchy
  • It contains no lanolin which makes it hypo-allergenic (and also makes it more sustainable as it can be processed at very low temperatures)
  • It also has a natural sheen that gives finished items a luxurious look
  • Both sheep and alpaca fleece is water-repellent, but alpaca also wicks away the moisture

Alpaca yarn is lightweight and warm, making it ideal for garments such as sweaters, scarves, and hats.

Care Instructions

Use lukewarm water and a specialist wool detergent. Hair conditioner in the final rinse will add extra softness. When washing and rinsing squeeze the garment rather than rubbing. Gently squeeze out excess water before rolling in a towel. Lay flat to dry. Washing machines: Modern machines with delicate programme at 20C using a wool delicate detergent.

Beautiful wool

I bought 2 balls of speckledy red to knit a hat, Kittiwake from Alice Starmore knitting book. Using 2.75 circular needles the hat knitted to size. Beautiful wool to knit with. I also bought the speckledy green wool to do the same. This really is a lovely subtle mixture

So soft

I’m a beginner knitter and chose the Regency Handwarmers as a starter. The wool is lovely to knit with, warm and soft and the finished article super. So much so I have decided to knit my 4 sisters a pair each for Christmas.
