The crochet hook, an optional extra, is 4.5mm and made from natural bamboo wood. They are wonderful to work with and hold.
These hat and mittens will keep your precious baby warm during the winter. The wrist warmers use lightweight DK alpaca yarn spun from the fleece of alpacas from UK farms. We love this hat and mittens set, partly because it looks so great, and also because it crochets up so qiuckly.

As with all Gorgeous alpaca DK kits, it's warm and cosy, but lightweight and breathes well. The alpaca yarn has a small amount of 100% natural sheep's wool blended in, which makes it easy to knit and crochet with, and still retains that wonderful alpaca softness.
What's so great about alpaca yarn?
Alpaca yarn is highly valued for it's softness, warmth, and durability.
Let's compare it to sheep's wool
- The fibres are much finer, and generally longer, than sheep’s wool, which makes them softer and less itchy
- It contains no lanolin which makes it hypo-allergenic (and also makes it more sustainable as it can be processed at very low temperatures)
- It also has a natural sheen that gives finished items a luxurious look
- Both sheep and alpaca fleece is water-repellent, but alpaca also wicks away the moisture

Hand washing: Use lukewarm water and a specialist wool detergent. Hair conditioner in the final rinse will add extra softness. When washing and rinsing squeeze the garment rather than rubbing. Gently squeeze out excess water before rolling in a towel. Lay flat to dry.
Washing machines: Modern machines with delicate programme at 20C using a wool delicate detergent. Can be spun at 400 RPM.

I love the softness of the wool and the sandstone colour. I am new to crochet and this is the third project I have done. I found the video extremely helpful as it clearly explained how to do the different stitches. I love the little kit bag provided which makes the project very portable. I had a problem with the paper pattern, but that was quickly resolved by Emma. She emailed me back within a couple of hours and then sent a lovely little gift as an apology! This yarn is just wonderful, so soft and cosy. The pattern is straight forward and well written. The customer service is amazing, an email was all that was needed to divert my order to Kent, rather than New Zealand which I had entered in error. Altogether a very satisfactory experience which I shall happily repeat.
