This is cute, fun to knit, warm, and hypo-allergenic because it is made using alpaca yarn. You can choose to knit it in the round, or as a flat panel. There are two bee sizes, and three different hat finishes (a pompom, or two types of stalk).
The kit is part of our bee range, which is a recognition of the plight of bees in today's environment. We are all more aware of the need to protect bees who work so hard to keep nature producing for us, and this is our acknowledgement of the importance of bees to our world.
The colours the hats are knitted in, from left to right, are: Jade, Parchment and Moss Green, but you can choose from over 20 of our lovely alpaca DK colours. We include the yarn for the bees.

- Cotton alpaca project bag
- 100g (225m) Gorgeous DK yarn made from 75% alpaca/25% sheep
- Approx 10g each of Black, Yellow Ochre, and Parchment yarn (as above)
- Optional 4.5mm needles (circular or single pointed) ,and a tapestry needle
- Pattern for kit
- For the bee, you will also need 3.25mm needles for the large bee, or 2.5mm needles for the small bee

As with all Gorgeous alpaca DK kits, it's warm and cosy, but lightweight and breathes well. The alpaca yarn has a small amount of 100% natural sheep's wool blended in, which makes it easy to knit and crochet with, and still retains that wonderful alpaca softness.
What's so great about alpaca yarn?
Alpaca yarn is highly valued for it's softness, warmth, and durability.
Let's compare it to sheep's wool
- The fibres are much finer, and generally longer, than sheep’s wool, which makes them softer and less itchy
- It contains no lanolin which makes it hypo-allergenic (and also makes it more sustainable as it can be processed at very low temperatures)
- It also has a natural sheen that gives finished items a luxurious look
- Both sheep and alpaca fleece is water-repellent, but alpaca also wicks away the moisture

Hand washing: Use lukewarm water and a specialist wool detergent. Hair conditioner in the final rinse will add extra softness. When washing and rinsing squeeze the garment rather than rubbing. Gently squeeze out excess water before rolling in a towel. Lay flat to dry.
Washing machines: Modern machines with delicate programme at 20C using a wool delicate detergent. Can be spun at 400 RPM.
