This alpaca wool knit kit uses alpaca yarn from British and Irish farms. Seen here in parchment and speckledy grey and available in a wide range of other alpaca colours. You can knit it in the round or as a flat panel. This is a straight forward hat, suitable for beginners: no ribbing, and only a simple decrease at the end, by which time you will be ready to learn a new technique, having mastered the main two knitting stitches: knit and and purl.

- Cotton alpaca project bag
- 100g (225m) Gorgeous DK yarn made from 75% alpaca/25% sheep's wool
- Faux fur pompom (choose colour at checkout)
- Pattern for this and two other more advanced two-colour hats
- Optional 4.5mm needles
Despite it's simplicity, it's also a really versatile hat: you can roll it up for a tight fit to the crown beanie-style, or roll it out for a long 2020s look!If you want it even longer, there is plenty of yarn left to keep going.It's very lightweight and very flexible so perfect for travelling.
As with all Gorgeous alpaca DK kits, it's warm and cosy, but lightweight and breathes well. The alpaca yarn has a small amount of 100% natural sheep's wool blended in, which makes it easy to knit with, and still retains that wonderful alpaca softness. This hat can be washed by hand or in a machine on a wool wash at 20 degrees.

What's so great about alpaca yarn?
Alpaca yarn is highly valued for it's softness, warmth, and durability.
Let's compare it to sheep's wool
- The fibres are much finer, and generally longer, than sheep’s wool, which makes them softer and less itchy
- It contains no lanolin which makes it hypo-allergenic (and also makes it more sustainable as it can be processed at very low temperatures)
- It also has a natural sheen that gives finished items a luxurious look
- Both sheep and alpaca fleece is water-repellent, but alpaca also wicks away the moisture

Hand washing: Use lukewarm water and a specialist wool detergent. Hair conditioner in the final rinse will add extra softness. When washing and rinsing squeeze the garment rather than rubbing. Gently squeeze out excess water before rolling in a towel. Lay flat to dry.
Washing machines: Modern machines with delicate programme at 20C using a wool delicate detergent. Can be spun at 400 RPM.

I bought the eyelet shawl kit as a Christmas gift. It arrived promptly and the yarn is gorgeous. I’m sure my recipient will be delighted with it.
I have bought this as a Christmas present, so can’t really comment on the kit. But loved the yarn colours and the kit choices.
My second ever project (I don’t count cotton dishcloths!) very new knitter- I am really enjoying this and to be honest was a bit scared of stepping away from just plain knit, and increasing stitches etc. The kit is great, I love the project bag and easy instructions.
