A calming Double Moss Stitch cowl designed for relaxed, mindful knitting — perfect to pick up and put down.

Description

The Restful Grab & Go Cowl Knit Kit is designed for knitters who want a stress-free project with a beautiful result. Using a simple Double Moss Stitch, this cowl is easy to follow and deeply satisfying to knit, making it ideal for quiet evenings, social knitting, or moments when you just want something comforting on your needles.

This alpaca wool knit kit uses beautifully soft alpaca yarn sourced from British and Irish alpaca farms, chosen for its warmth, softness, and gentle feel while you knit. The result is a lightweight, versatile cowl you’ll enjoy wearing throughout the year.

Part of our Restful Range, this kit is intended for easy, calming knitting that allows you to focus on the enjoyment of making rather than counting or concentration. The patterns in this range have been tested by beginners, rusty knitters, and experienced knitters alike, with consistent feedback that they are restful to knit and produce timeless, wearable pieces.

  • Size: 4/9Nm giving 225m (245 yards) per 100g

As with all Gorgeous alpaca DK kits, it's warm and cosy, but lightweight and breathes well. The alpaca yarn has a small amount of 100% natural sheep's wool blended in, which makes it easy to knit and crochet with, and still retains that wonderful alpaca softness.

What's so great about alpaca yarn?

  • Alpaca yarn is highly valued for it's softness, warmth, and durability
  • The fibres are much finer, and generally longer, than sheep’s wool, which makes them softer and less itchy
  • It contains no lanolin which makes it hypo-allergenic (and also makes it more sustainable as it can be processed at very low temperatures)
  • It also has a natural sheen that gives finished items a luxurious look
  • Both sheep and alpaca fleece is water-repellent, but alpaca also wicks away the moisture

Hand washing: Use lukewarm water and a specialist wool detergent. Hair conditioner in the final rinse will add extra softness.
When washing and rinsing squeeze the garment rather than rubbing.
Gently squeeze out excess water before rolling in a towel. Lay flat to dry.

Washing machines: Modern machines with delicate programme at 20C using a wool delicate detergent. Can be spun at 400 RPM

Frequently Asked Questions

Natural fibers are biodegradable and decompose naturally, unlike synthetic fibers, which take over 200 years to degrade. During this time, they contribute to landfill waste, release greenhouse gases, and leach toxic chemicals into the environment.

Alpaca material is stain-resistant, which means that it needs less washing and is less likely to get ruined by stains … and alpaca is stain-resistant without having chemicals and coatings added to it to make it so.

Sustainable Fashion Story

Alpaca yarn is naturally wrinkle-resistant, eliminating the need for ironing and reducing energy consumption. This helps lower carbon emissions, with ironing estimated to produce 190 kg of CO₂ per person annually.

Unlike sheep and goats, alpacas graze sustainably by trimming grass instead of uprooting it. This allows the grass to regrow naturally, preserving the soil and supporting healthy ecosystems.
